Elizabeth Ludwig's No Safe Harbor (Bethany House Publishers, 2012) is a historical romance with suspense to spare. As Cara's search for her brother draws her closer to the shadowy world of the Irish revolutionaries in New York and she realizes that she can trust no one, her terror and confusion become palpable to the reader. Ludwig does a wonderful job, particularly towards the end of the book, of keeping the tension high and the pages turning.
I would have loved for Ludwig to have included more information on the Fenian Brotherhood (the Irish revolutionary group involved in the story). I think it would have made for a richer experience for the reader and given more depth to the characters. Even so, No Safe Harbor is very entertaining, and I recommend it.

Hi there - I dont often (well ever!) read this style of book - but I do find the act of reviewing the books I read does make me think more deeply about them.
Is it the same for you?
