For me, anyway.
Yesterday, I was watching Meet the Press, and a strange thing happened. As I was listening to the heated debate about who was best equipped to speak softly and swing a big dick, Obama or McCain, I felt overwhelmed by exhaustion. The television voices screaming at me sounded like overamplified gibberish. I switched off the TV and took my coffee outside so I could listen to the birds chatter. The birds were making more sense.
Here's the strange part. I am a total political junkie. I actually watch Bill O'Reilly and listen to talk radio for the sheer joy of becoming incensed. I eat this stuff up. So, if I'm tuning out election coverage in self-defense, just imagine how the "normal" American public is reacting!
Perhaps, that's the real election year strategy for both political parties. Bombard the voters with bullshit until they throw up their hands in disgust and stop caring. With so many news cycles to go before November, I'm afraid that it just might work.

You know..that just might happen. I'm not there yet, but they're working on it.
Yeah, I hear you. I get into the politcal debates too, but this year enough is enough. I need the Democrats make a decison. It will be interesting again when we can look towards November. :)
I'm there. I don't typically discuss my politics (let's just say I work in a place where my views do not at all mesh w/ everyone else's, so I'm closeted, so to speak).
But...I'm SICK of this to the brink of not caring. I'm sure I'll rally in October, but for now, I want the summer off ;)
Also...you're blogrolled lady ;)
I could not agree with you more.
Oh, "speak softly and swing a big dick" -- that's going to have me smiling for the rest of election season. I'm with you though -- I'm also a political junky, but I've turned the media off. Blah, blah, blah -- I'm done for now.
I'm the opposite. I can't stand politics. My heart was set, long ago, on JFK Jr. being President one day and changing the shape and flow of the world that the day he died I just kinda walked away. I'm still waiting for someone like him to come along, male, female, black or white to impress me. So far, nothing. :(
I stopped listening about 4 months ago.
I still intend to vote, but my pleasure at finally being offered two candidates that I would like as president has turned into disgust with them all.
Again.
I can relate to everything you've written. Lately politics has done nothing but frustrate and exhaust me. I've had to step away fromt he TV more than a few times.
I'm ashamed to admit that I'm not much into politics. I do vote for the person I feel is more qualified but I don't follow the race throughout the year. For some reason, this years seems to be so drawn out. Maybe it's because of the constant media coverage. I'm so over it already! Can we just vote now? LOL!
Thank you for stopping by! Aloha!
See, here is the thing. If you think you, as a political junkie are bored with the whole thing then how must the rest of the US relate to it - can we extrapolate to the REST OF THE WORLD who, for some strange reason, also has to receive the blow by blows.
I mean, sure, it is the fault of our media that we have it piped to us, but we can't even have any effect of the outcome. Its kinda like watching a Punch and Judy show, and you feel like yelling "watch out for the stick" and you know the puppeteer doesn't even care what you kids think.
That's worth hoping for: that the political junkies will all give up the junk.
Ditto that comment. I feel the same way when I try to listen to what they're depating.
When I turned off my tv for that week, I was so thrilled to be missing out on all the political hype and hoopla.
I hate it! I'll be there in November, voting for the person that squeaks out a NOD from the dems.
You have much more stamina than I! I gave up about 3 weeks ago, I think.
Thanks for visiting!
